As I sat, watching my older sister, nurse my niece, it was then, that I thought this whole “breast feeding” thing was gross and who in their right mind would “DO THAT?!” Changing dirty diapers, being spit up on and having to hear “it” cry, was definitely not for me. No way….nope…. never. I wasn't going to have any kids…or so I thought. Funny how things turned out……
So, here I am 29 years later and guess what? Not only have I changed diapers, been puked on, and have had to console a crying baby, I've done it six times. And… I continue to do it and then some. Yes,…. I run to the restroom when I hear “Mommy….I'm done!” Get awaken at 6 am because someone says it's morning time and they're hungry again. When clearly, they've just eaten the night before. Sheesh!!! And lastly, it doesn't matter how old your child is, I still find myself having to console that “crying baby.” The funny thing is, sometimes that baby is my 18 year old. Ahh, the joys of having six children. Yes, you read that right. It wasn't a misprint. I, Lynda have six crazy children, ages 18, 15, 13, 5, 3 and 2. Then again, MAYBE….just maybe it is I, who is the crazy one. Hmmmm……
My husband, Toan and I have been together for 21 years and I still haven't killed him. We met, when we both worked at an ice cream shop in San Francisco. Yes, San Francisco, home. That's another story, I'll save for a rainy day. Moving out and starting a family young wasn't exactly what we had in mind, but at the age of 20, my first “bundle of joy”, Vanessa, was born. Three years later, her brother Robert followed and last but not least, Ryan arrived two years later. Three kids later, I was done, right? After all, having three kids going to private school in the city was expensive, let alone unheard of….or so it seemed. With our one bedroom apartment, the five of us decided it was time to move. Suburbia here we come! It was definitely time to buy a home.
Moving to Brentwood was exciting at first, but soon after, it got boring. So, what better way to liven things up than by having another kid, correct? Soon, Nicholas was born. However, because of the nine year age gap (that was my justification, haha), between Ryan and Nicholas, we NEEDED to have just ONE MORE baby. Sure…..for Nicholas. The truth was, I had been wanting to have another girl. The score was 1 girl and 3 boys. I NEEDED another girl. I had to have another girl!! So, as always, mommy got her way and Erik was born two years later. STILL not having a girl, I managed to twist my husband's arm and 17 months later, little Emma was born. Finally!! A girl……
So, who am I and what am I about? My name is Lynda and I'm here wanting to share with you folks, my silly stories of raising six children, being able to deal with everyday dilemas and keeping sane in the process. I share, in hopes that it will either make you smile, pity me…..haha or just amuse you. And remember, NEVER say never……
